Sponsor a Meeting

Want to get your business information on every chair and dinner table? You can - as a meeting sponsor. For the low sum of $100 (for members) you can pepper your materials AND have five minutes on the platform to promote your business.

The August 12 meeting is our semi-annual all networking meeting - wouldn't you like to have your materials be the focal point of the meeting? August is available....

In September the Wind Beneath My Wings Award is given. We'll have a speaker and YOU as the sponsor. Contact me or any leadership team member.

Walk for Mental Health

I'm going to be walking a 5K for NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, on Saturday, May 1. Won't you join me? The more the better - there is no entrance fee although donations for the cause are certainly accepted.

I've set up a "team" on the NAMIWalks website. The team is called MindMeld. Our "theme" will be tie-dye apparel (just seems appropriate). You can sign up with the team online or just email me at slgumby@sbcglobal.net and let me know you'd like to walk with me.

Conference postponed - stay tuned

The business conference has been postponed to the Fall so that more planning can take place. In the meantime, please let me know what you'd like to see/hear/participate at the conference, suggestions for speakers, and anything else you'd like the Board to know as we move forward.

It's going to be great! Stay tuned.....

Conference coming soon

The green light has been given to put together a business conference this year. Several outstanding presenters are already waiting in the wings for the great event.

A tentative date is Saturday, April 24. In order to firm it up, we need a venue (that we can afford and will be fitting for a professional group). Your suggestions/contacts are most welcome. This needs to get confirmed ASAP.

I know you will want to attend when you see what we have in store. Please contact me at slgumby@sbcglobal.net or find me at the next meeting if you have a suggestion for a venue.

Congrats to Sue Gary!

Hearty, well-deserved congratulations to Navigator member Sue Gary who was awarded the coveted Wind Beneath My Wings Award at the February, 2010 meeting.

Sue honored her husband Robert in the most special way. She seemed genuinely surprised and especially thrilled when Robert appeared in the doorway! He held onto her supportively during a few tearful moments as she read her essay nominating him. What a wonderful guy.

Welcome, New Members!

What a joy to see new members popping up on the website. Some past members returning, some new to us. We're glad to have you! As a 6+ year member and past president, I am a bit biased, I'll admit. VCPWN is a wonderful organization - creating relationships without pressure to "sell". It's a night away to renew friendships and establish new ones. I hope you won't miss the November meeting - our last untili 2010 (my, it comes quickly) featuring our fabulous silent auction. They are always great and a wonderful way to support the organization while picking up some holiday gifts. See you there!!!

Sad News on the loss of a long-time member

On August 24, 2009, long-time member and past VCPWN Board member Mary Sullivan passed away after complications of a sroke and heart surgery.

Mary served on the Board several times, most recently as Director of Finance. Mary has been an enthusiastic, supportive friend to many in VCPWN and in many other areas. Her volunteer work with re-entry women in an Oxnard program reaped remarkable results. Her work as an attorney in the field of family law focusing on juveniles and eldercare was renown.

It is with a sad heart that we remember Mary with fondness and admiration.
